Me too. And I can't explain it to my high school friends who think it's crazy that I haven't seen the last few films. It just went all awry and I don't like remembering that it ended on that note. Nothing like leaving my OotP-just-released-omg-Sirius-died memories of fandom intact. Pre-OotP was magic.

I'm going to be a total wreck at the end of the last movie. An entire box of tissues, chocolate, and some Barcardi are going to be my best friends afterwards.

Why is everyone so sure HP fandom will die after the movies? Stop whining about it. If you guys put half the effort into writing or discussing in fandom instead of bemoaning its alleged impending death, you wouldn't be in this situation.

HP fandom wil not die when the movies end. Star Trek and Star Wars fandoms didn't die. HP will always be one of the main pillars of fandom; it's been around for so long, there's so many people and there's so much crazy it could never die.

After Star Trek TOS got cancelled, fans got TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and 11 films; Star Wars came back with new films and always had new books released. Unless JKR decides to writer more Harry Potter books (Scottish Book aside), or somebody decides to remake the Harry Potter films, new material will not be available in the HP fandom. It's not really comparable to ST and SW.

Also, not everyone reads/writes fanfiction or watches the youtube musicals. To those who don't, it might feel like the fandom is "dying" out. My connection to the HP fandom is through fansites, podcasts, and conventions. The fansites will have less to report, the podcasts will run out of discussions, and the conventions will become less frequent. So yeah, it does feel a little scary, since this has been a part of my life since I was 8... I'll never stop loving these books, and I'll pass them on to my kids, but at some point it won't be as big a part of my life as it always has been and that'll be partly because of the lack of new things to get excited over. Midnight release parties will distant memories.

Judging by other fandoms where the original material was created long ago I wouldn't worry to much. The fandom will shrink that is true but it will not die out.

Oh, come on now. It's not going to be over with the last stupid WB movie. You know that inevitably, somewhere down the line, someone will try to do a remake (unless JKR is still around and puts her foot down like she did when movie offers were first being made). There's the theme park, there's awesome fan-made stuff like AVPM & AVPS, and there's the encyclopedia. And even when new things aren't coming out, it's not like people will just stop caring about Harry Potter. It's made too big of an impact for that.

Don't get yourself down about it, anon. The HP fandom will still be going for quite some time.

There are plenty of people who don't like the films and they didn't abandon Harry Potter fandom after they finished reading Deathly Hallows four years ago. A lot of us will feel weird having watched the last film, but the fandom isn't going anywhere. Though I do sympathise with the OP to an extent.

I know what you mean, OP. I've never read the last Hornblower book. Or the last Cadfael book, either. Maybe some day I'll be ready for those stories to end, but not yet.

HARRY POTTER WILL NOT SELF DESTRUCT AFTER THE FINAL MOVIE WILL COME OUT.

People will still be reading the books. There will be countless generations after this one reading those books. The fandom will not die, and the next person to complain about how this is "the end" I am going to personally throttle because I am so fucking sick of hearing this.
