I just want to point out...it's OP's mother. Presumably, OP knows her better than us at F!S do. It's not like s/he's talking about a stranger s/he overheard on a bus or subway or in a bar or something, who is a stranger to OP and could've had a thousand reasons for that reaction (like personal dislike of Will Ferrell and/or John C. Reilly, rather than for gay kissing, conventionally unattractive people kissing, or public displays of affection in general). There could be a pattern of behavior involved here where this little thing was the straw that finally broke OP's back. (I think a lot of secrets are made about an event that finally killed the secret-maker's patience after it had been building for a long time, rather than an insolated incident they're overreacting to for no reason.)

There are a lot of things about my mother (and the reason she believes certain things) that I don't know. Sometimes she does things and I'm like o.O and then years down the road I find out something about her that makes everything make sense.

Just because it's the OPs mother doesn't mean she knows everything about her. Jussayin'.

I agree with you about the "recurring incident" part though. That could be it too.

I agree - that could also be it. Just from the way it's worded, OP comes off as judgemental and jumping to conclusions, to my mind. Obviously not trying to police how she writes secrets, but if it was me posting this, and your hypothesis was in fact the case, I'd have made that clearer. YMMV, I dunno.

Or maybe I just don't like believing there's yet another homophobe in the world -.-
