Considering he was crying for his minions to bail him out earlier, I think he could have used some comfort. He didn't realize how much he took them for granted, and came to rely on them. Light felt the terror of death that any other human could. But I think it was a lesson for him, to experience what he condemned countless victims to.
The anime does a good job of showing him as reduced to a lost, lonely young man there; reinforcing it with flashback of his former self.
