My high school did a production of LSOH and we had a girl play Audrey II. Another, more valid, example is the local big production of the play ALSO had a really cool badass lady singing Audrey II last time they did it.

Keep dreaming OP, it can happen <3

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit

OP, are you my sister? She always said the same thing.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
To quote your favourite character: If I can talk and I can move, who's to say I can't do anything I want?

[identity profile] violent-aki.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
False, when my high school did Little Shop, we had a female Twoey! It all depends on your voice. You can do it, OP.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
oh my god, OP, are you me? i could have made this exact secret, word-for-word. every. single. bit of it.

it's one of my biggest wishes that if my school ever does a production of little shop of horrors, i'll be brave enough to try out for audrey II, even if i know i won't get the part. i hope the same for you, OP ♥

[identity profile] mezzomeadowlark.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
There was a female Audrey II in my university's production too! :)

[identity profile] bamf-girl.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Shit man, are you me? I've always wanted to either be Audrey II or Seymore in a production of LSOH, so far the closest I've gotten was doing karaoke, haha.

Maybe one day we'll get there, even though we don't (or I assume you don't, since you're also a girl) have deep soulfull voices.

[identity profile] makokitten.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
They did LSOH at my all-female summer camp when i was younger. Some guys were imported from the guys' camp nearby, but Audrey II was a girl. Since the production was low-budget, until the second act, the "plant" was just that girl - a really attractive girl - in greenish, leafy clothing, standing in a large flowerpot and beckoning to Seymour.

I was really disappointed to learn that the plant actually a plant in all other incarnations. Then I felt bad because I realized that the reason I was so disappointed was that I shipped it. Good going, little me.

Anyway, rock on, OP! It can still happen.

Just do it.

[identity profile] iambic5.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, OP, I feel you. All the musical roles I desperately covet are guys (doesn't help that I'm basically a tenor and there are no women's roles I can sing, so I'm sort of screwed) anyway, solidarity, is my point.

But if you ever run into a production, at school or community theatre or wherever, audition for it anyway! If you show up and rock it out, you never know what could happen. :D

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a short, curvy woman who for years has desperately wanted to play Captain Hook. After college I got a job at a children's theatre, and evenually let my boss in on that fact. He said, "So become a producer and stage your own production! Then you can play whatever you want!"

I'd love to play Valjean or Javert from Les Mis, or Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde from Jekyll and Hyde, Or Ronald Weasley from AVPM, so I knoew how you feel anon. ^^;

I'm going to be sending you happy thoughts so you get your dream, 'mkay? If that's alright, I mean. ^^;

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, do I hear this.

Granted, Twoey's got a nice, bluesy voice, and I think if you can swing that, you can probably pull it off. As the above comments show, it can and has been done.

But there are a lot of other roles that just don't lend themselves to blind casting, because of the quality of voice required. I can think of half a dozen roles I wanted to play when I was younger that I eventually realized my tiny little alto voice just wasn't going to have the stuff for. Ah well.

Still, I say go for it. Heck, Twoey is technically female.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much every single role that has ever interested me in theater has been a guy role. Luckily my school was good about letting girls play guy characters if it worked, but I think it's one of the reasons I never got more serious about acting. The fact that I would never have a chance of getting any of my favorite roles in a RL production (ie, not high school) was a bit dismaying.

[identity profile] dizzywhip.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, do you want to be the voice or the puppet? Because they're different parts. I'm a girl and I played Audrey II in our high school production of the play. You don't have to be a boy to be a good puppeteer!

It was the best experience of my high school career. :)

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
ok ok OP here is what you do:

go to an all-girls camp

that is how i ended up playing orin in my camp's production, ahahaha

[identity profile] azaelers.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
2 out of the 3 theatre production of LSoH I've seen have had Audrey II played by a girl.

Dream on, anon. Dream on.

[identity profile] schizophrenic0.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I know how you feel, OP. My dream role is John Adams in 1776 (and I'm female as well). I think you may have a chance, though, depending on the the theatre. My friend played Judas in her high school performance of Jesus Christ Superstar. Granted, it was an all-girls school, but still ;)

[identity profile] agentak.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Just audition. I used to think the same thing until I fought like hell for a chance to audition to be Phantom in Phantom of the Opera and I got it. Just try.

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
All the other OPs have said it, but I know of several productions who've used female Twoeys and most have got fab reveiws. I've just finished doing this show and our Audrey I, who'd been in the show 4 times over, had previously played AND puppeteer-ed for Audrey II.So it's possible OP, you've just gotta knock the audition panels socks off! :D

[identity profile] racheltastism.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, OP, I know how you feel. Little Shop has always been my favourite musical, and it's always been my dream to play Seymour, but I'm also a girl. (My second dream has always been Audrey which I know I could rock if I ever got the chance, or more importantly, had the confidence to try...) Anyways, I don't want to sound redundant, but like other commenters have said, keep dreaming anon! It could happen! If you've got the voice for it, I'm sure you could pull it off! You just gotta get out there and try :)

[identity profile] chickenperson52.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally worked on a high school production of LSOH with a female Audrey II. She was amazing and badass and her performance was a hit.

Don't give up!

[identity profile] beandelphiki.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a plant. There's no reason it has to be a guy.

If I could ever perform a song from that show, it would be this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOtMizMQ6oM) But "Git It," is a close second.

Just audition.

[identity profile] in-comescompany.livejournal.com 2011-05-24 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always wanted to play Enjolras from Les Mis, or Narrator/Mysterious Man from Into the Woods.

I think I'm limited more by not being a great singer (though I can hit their notes).

I believe in you, OP. And actually, Audrey II REALLY isn't out of the realm of possibility. I've also known a female Audrey II (her Git It is awesome).
