same. i'm a lesbian who's way too embarrassed to write femslash. maybe i'm afraid i'll get off on it or something. i don't even know.

for me it's because it's too personal. i feel like i'd be exposing myself or revealing too much or something, even if i'm writing characters nothing like me.

...wow, you just put into words something i've been trying to figure out for a while. thanks, anon. that actually really helps me make more sense of this.

+1

I can't relate to your secret, but ooh! Finder series! It's one of my most awesome guilty pleasures!

I can't get into yuri/femmslash either..My brain always has to self insert me in there somewhere which kinda creeps me out.

It sounds like part of the coming out process, it's totally scary at first, and feels revealing, and embarassing sometimes. But then it gets less embarrassing, and then you get used to it, and then it becomes fun, and just part of you that's not something you have to hold back.

[Seriously, for probably a year after I came out to my parents I would internally just be so embarrassed everytime they mentioned something about gayness (they are totally supportive btw), and then I got used to it. And now it's normal, and there are tons of conversations my Mum and I have that I never would have thought possible]

Almost the same here; there are a couple people I feel comfortable playing f/f with, and I can write it on occasion. But I always feel like I'm revealing too much about my own sexual likes and kinks, showing people something way too personal. And there's some fear there that I'll subconsciously insert myself into the characterization when I write females, because I look for ways to relate to characters when I write them.

Whereas m/m lets me explore gay relationships and sex and such without having to feel "too close" to it.

Same here. I just never quite figured out how to describe f/f scenes in a way that wasn't overly clinical, overly flowery, or kind of gross. My ex and I used to roleplay m/m stuff all the time, haha.
