why not? If you are in a community for het or gen and do not want to read about slash, because you don't like it or just don't enjoy it? It's like warning, for, I don't know, fluff or angst, which I've seen? "Slash" is just a genre of fic, to me, and it's more of a description than a warning, the way I see it, you tell readers what they are in for.

It's the fact that it's in the warning category rather than in the genre category. It's a pretty big implication.

Ah yes, I see. "Smut" is a warning, "slash" or "homosexual romance" or whatever would have to be a genre. I mean, if you must put it somewhere.

In which case, you put it in the description section rather than in the warning section. There's a huge difference between simply stating your fic contains slash, and warning for it! First off, it's really heteronormative because when was the last time you saw someone seriously warn for het? The warning makes it seem like there's something bad about homosexuality, which there isn't. It also definitely assumes heterosexuality as the default/norm, which is problematic. And it's stupid to have the warning there when everyone who can read the description knows they're going to get slash of some sort. Warning for specific sexual acts is again, totally different, but warning just for two people of the same gender being romantically involved is silly and offensive.

Long story short, stating vs warning. There is a difference. The latter is what we're talking about here.

yep, I got what you meant, as stated above. I agree that the terminology is flawed. Though there is one thing I disagree with, which is that I saw "warnings" for het pretty often, on many slash communities, as a matter of fact.

I've seen people warn for het. Fairly often.

Personally, I don't really care where people mention the things that the reader may or may not care about in the fic, be it the 'warnings' or the 'summary' etc. I'm skimming that header anyway, and making up my mind whether to keep reading. But since I'm active in at least one fandom that has a fairly hefty percentage of people who would prefer not to read same sex pairings (and aren't that much on het pairings either, to tell the truth) and an equally hefty percentage of people who are just there for the slashy smut, mentioning the presence of het or slash in the header is simple courtesy. Fussing over whether the mention should be in one place or another is just fussing.

Maybe if they had put it under "contains" or "genre" or even under "pairings" instead of "warning" it would be okay. But "Warning" for slash is pretty weird and insulting. It's all about the terminology used.
