If your mom was able to play it fine, it sounds like either she damaged it or it IS your disc drive. Don't blame EA for that.

Uh, actually I will, because if the game requires a special kind of DVD drive to work (everything else - every other game I've ever put into it as well as movies - runs fine on it), then there is indeed something wrong. I'm lucky in that I have a desktop, so if I was inclined to (and had the money - not going to drop 60 on a game and then however-much on a DVD drive), I could switch out my DVD drive. A lot of laptops don't give you that option, or if they do, you have to get a technician to do it. So they've gone and screwed over a good bit of their customer base.

I've also, you know, never run into a game before that just plain wouldn't load at all if there was a tiny, invisible-to-the-eye hairline scratch on it.

Did they say it requires a SPECIAL DVD drive? And even then, the game specs are on the freakin' box.

Again, it sounds like YOUR MOM damaged the disc. Just because you're trying to convince me it was some tiny weensy hairline scratch and man I swear all my other games work fine with scratches doesn't mean it wasn't a scratch that couldn't devastated some sort of important data, or that your DVD drive is finally getting old enough it can't read damaged discs as well as it used to.

I'm all for piling on developers when they make things hard to access, but your mom accessed it fine. This is not EA's fault.

Oh quite white-knighting. What, do you work for them or something?

Actually, the problem is pretty well-documented, and it is a specific audio file that a lot of discs have trouble accessing and won't install without. So there is that.
