Didn't this happen to Twilight? It was easier to tune out Twilight before all the haters came out to bash it constantly, due to it's popularity. I get it, it's shit, can we move on and leave the fans alone.

Backlash will almost always both outlast and overshadow any kind of ubiquitous popular thing, no matter how grating that thing or its fans are generally thought to be. Otherwise known as the "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE" phenomenon, its side effects include headaches, dizziness, vomiting, and occasionally wanting to tell people to shut up and move on with their lives despite agreeing with them.

See also: YouTube comments on music videos. Some form of "This is so much better than [well-known pop music]. THUMBS UP IF YOU HATE JUSTIN BIEBER" will almost always be present, no matter what kind of video it is.

I agree, I've seen a lot more people complaining about the fandom than the fandom itself. The biggest complaint I've seen is how the fandom is suddenly everywhere, but honestly, I don't understand the problem. Have My Little Pony fans been bullying people in other fandoms or something? Because I would find that hilarious.

... well, considering that MLP:FiM's 'Net fanbase appears to have its roots in 4chan...

not that I know what "bronies" get up to exactly. Though some people appear to resent them just for existing.

Actually, most bronies hate looking like that one fan who pushes their canon onto everyone and anyone. At most they might might recommend it, but a lot of them prefer people to discover the show on their own.
