lol I'm not appalled, but Sherlock is so asexual to me, I couldn't read ~romantic fic for this fandom.

He could be into romance even if he is asexual, though. That's how I see him, at least. I ship Sherlock/John, but I won't read any smut with them, and even non-smutty fics that has mentions them having a sex life weirds me out.

I don't know any gen fic in specific, but asexy_sherlock is for fanworks where Sherlock is asexual, a lot of which is gen.

Anyways, there's plenty of gen & asexual!Sherlock out there if you look. Complaining that people read what is available & what they want to read isn't that productive.

Yeah, IA. Didn't Arthus Conan Doyle himself endorse fanfiction being written about his characters because he loved seeing the different interpretations people had for Sherlock Holmes? I don't think there's any "right" or "wrong" way to write Sherlock, tbh.

But seriously, if you don't want to read them in a slash relationship, there bunches of gen fics of them out there. Some of them extremely good. Just go to the com and hit the tag labled gen. I think appalled is an awfully harsh word. You're entitled to prefer gen/bromance over slash of course, but to be ~*~appalled~*~ that other people see romance where you don't is a bit more than a little ridiculous, OP.

This. I mean, I love slash, but I certainly have some fandoms where I just don't see whatever it is the majority of fandom sees (Sherlock, however, is not one of them..). So I get being confused, or bemused, or even annoyed, if you want to read other ships or gen or whatever. But appalled? Why?

(And as people point out above, it's even sillier to be ~appalled~ by freaking Sherlock Holmes/John Watson. What the hell did the OP expect?)

As much as I'm not a fan, I wouldn't say that I'm appalled by the slash. Like some of the other commenters have said, there's over a century of subtext going on.

I've just always read Holmes as asexual in any incarnation. That, and like the Doctor, thinking about him sexually is like thinking about my grandfather sexually. Which, uhm... ew. lol


But that's my own hang-up. If someone else likes to imagine him boffing Watson between cases, then why should I care?

Honestly, I always wanted to stick to Holmes being asexual in every incarnation... until I saw the pool scene in "The Great Game". That converted me to a Sherlock/John shipper in two seconds flat--only in this incarnation, though, although I do giggle a bit at the unintentionally slashy bits in Doyle canon. That said, I'm not a raging Sherlock/John shipper in the sense that I think they should get together on the show; I'm totally okay with shipping them just in fic and I'm fine with that! I've written slash and gen for the two of them and never had a problem with either.
