I think Wheatley's a real love him/hate him character. I think he's pretty endearing, mostly because everything he says just cracks me up.

I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone has any interest in him is this fixation Americans have on British accents. If he were possessed of an American accent, he'd probably be equally annoying to the largely-American-derived fanbase's ears (as he is to mine). But his accent's exotic, and that makes him so cute and charming when he rambles on end.

Because that's not gross or anything.

I live in Ireland and I don't really care for most accents from... anywhere honestly (I don't mind them or such but I don't like them either) and I still really like Wheatley. He was well-written imo and if he had any other accent I would probably like him just as much because he's cute and stupid.

I'm British and therefore hear British accents as neutral, or at least much more neutral than American accents. I love every inch of Wheatley.

Not that there isn't a bit of accent-fetishism in the fandom, but for every fangirl I've seen eeping over his adorable accent, I've seen a fanboy complaining that having a British robot isn't in keeping with the game because he needs to have a 'robotic accent'. I'm not a fan of British people being automatically sexualised because of their accents, but I also think British people have just as much right to be robots as anyone else.

Definitely not just you. I hated him from start to finish. Whenever he started talking I'd blank it out. I look at Wheatley and all I can see is Stephen Merchant's annoying face hovering around and trying to be quirky/LOLFUNNY. /endrant

With all the Wheatley-hate secrets lately I feel like I'm the only person who not only liked his character but also didn't want to have sex with him. :(

I felt so great when I shot the moon, and I probably wore an expression that said, "FUCK YOU, YOU DICK." The most triumphant moment EVER.

And then I felt bad. Sure I liked the little guy, and he totally had it coming :(
