I didn't cry, but it did sadden me a bit. I liked that guy.

I saw that movie last week and I don't even recognize that guy? Omg the powdered wigs make everyone look exactly the same to me. At first I thought this was a Norrington secret.

That's the military guy who was Barbossa's second in command during the official voyage on royal orders. He got shot during the fight by the Fountain.

I literally just got back from seeing that movie and I don't even remember that guy, he was totally unmemorable.

...ironic given that he's been in every film.

Wait. Perhaps not the second, but he's definitely in the first and third.

It's Lt. Groves. He was one of Norrington's lackeys in the first film---he's the one who says, "He's the greatest pirate I've ever seen" when Jack steals the Interceptor.

Honestly, I lost it too when Groves was shot. Not tears, but epic fan girl flailing and despair. He was definitely one of the characters I was most excited to see again, especially after Norrington was killed last movie.

Groves without the wig was fucking hotttt btw

Yeah, pretty much the only reason I went to see it was because Groves and Gillette were in it. And then... Every damn time.

Also, was it just me or could Barbossa's role just as easily could have been Norrington? It probably would've made even more sense. At least more sense than Barbossa deciding to become a privateer at least. :/

And apparently I have no Norrington icons so have Peter Smith Kingsley instead.

I think they could have easily had it as Norrington leading the Royal Navy and kept Barbossa + Gibbs with the Blackbeard storyline. Norrington teh Pirate Hunter would be more than capable of tracking and keeping up with them and the Spanish

or even kept Barbossa in with Gibbs leading the Royal Navy. Could you imagine the snark between Norrington and Barbossa?

either way, Norrington could have probably lived through AWE and gone with Groves and Gillette to London, dammit.

I saw him and I was stoked hoping that he would step forward into the missing gallant king's navy man space. ;-;

And my hopes were dashed too. I didn't cry but I was so miffed. I feel you, anon.

I didn't cry, but I freaked out because I liked Groves and it really proved to me that the writers no longer give a shit, especially since he got to be a mauve shirt in this movie and I liked that they were referencing some continuity with him. Then they killed him, and I was like, "Wow, you just stopped caring, didn't you, Elliot and Rossio?"

I'm with the others. After he lost thew wig I didn't know who he was but I thought it was OK since it gave the Spanish their one decent line.

I just think there was too much going on and/or too many characters the in the movie.

HOLY SHIT. I was literally JUST having a conversation about him with a friend at my journal! I don't blame you! I love, love that he & Gillette have a fanbase. It's adorable. <3

I also didn't cry, but I was pretty pissed. Though it should be noted that there wasn't a dead body lying there when the whole shenanigans with Blackbeard and the lot went down - maybe it was just a flesh wound and he got up and ran?

The people I saw the movie with laughed and so did I until I realized who it was, then I ;_;
