Realizing that I may have been missremembering what he said and how he may have meant it I want looking for the article on Gateworld to check. It's this one from 2007: gateworld.net/interviews/turn_of_the_page.shtml


And this is the relevant paragraph:
It was nice to have that break. I think for Christopher and Amanda, who didn't get the chance to have that time away, I think they suffered more fatigue the further we went along. And for me I was a lot fresher when I came back. It was nice, but it does feel like there are two separate stories there. Two separate series.

I thought he was forced off the show? And then everyone had to fight to get him back? He makes it sound like he took a break willingly and then came back on his own without any problems with the producers. Guess that fan campaign didn't actually do anything.

And I still think he sounds like an ass for commenting on how he feels sorry for Chris Judge and Amanda for not being able to take a break.

LOL he left because he wanted to do other roles and felt he was being typecast. IIRC, he really wanted to do theater. And then he got no jobs. So he came slinking back with his head hung down and they rehired him.

Which makes the whole "Save Daniel Jackson" thing seem like a ridiculous waste of time if it was his own choice to leave and then to come back and the producers would have taken him back anyway from how it sounds.

Different anon. The whole "Save Daniel Jackson" campaign could have been used as a bargaining chip. The powers that be at stargate are really not above bending to fan will after making a dumb move.

Otherwise I don't know why they stupidly brought Carson back after stupidly killing him. The whole franchise is a hot mess.

I thought it was pretty damn obvious they'd already had a plan to bring him back all along as a clone and they were just letting the fans make fools of themselves with the campaign.

Um...why does that make him sound like an ass? Have both of them said that they loved it the whole time and were never tired and never wished they'd had a break, or something? Because to me, it sounds like he's saying, "I felt refreshed when I came back, and I wish my costars could have had that same feeling," which...is not actually a bad thing to think.

But then, there might very well be a host of other things he's said that lend his comments here a flavor of ass-hattery that I'm ill-equipped to detect.

He didn't just take a break - he got pissed off because he wasn't getting enough screen time and when the producers didn't listen to his demands he left. Then he came crawling back when his career went nowhere. The others did their jobs and didn't make stupid demands about screen time or other shit and the sure as hell didn't didn't leave in a huff over it.

It's not so much what he said but rather what the full story is for why he "got to take a break".
