No; not at all and I never said it wasn't rape. I said it wasn't a clear-cut case of rape (which I see as non-consensual sex act or during a sex act when 'no' is used and not heeded) but, for the lack of a better term, gray-area rape because I'm taking in the context of the story and the historical era.

That context being 1) Lucrezia was willing to have sex with her husband (up until he proven he was a beast and that it wasn't going to get any better - the point where you could tell she just wanted it to stop because it hurt and wasn't going to ease. That this wasn't what had been described to her by her confidants).

2) The fact that this time frame they are using is that men had the power and women did not. That marriage was a duty for most and that married women were really only responsible for having children, rearing them, and running the house. They, very simply put, were not expected to enjoy carnal relations because they were suppose to be untainted and without needs.

The fact is I tried to clarify it as something beyond rape by calling it pure brutalization because Lucrezia was complete in her trust of her husband to show her how sex was something more sacred that it becomes lovemaking. She wanted to give herself to him as was her duty as wife and yet he had the gall to treat her so poorly. He shattered both her illusions and innocence in that scene.

Now if I failed to portray that with my words, if I somehow made it hard to comprehend my meaning, then I am sorry but the only thing I ever enjoyed during English class was the reading assignments.

The actual textbook term for this is "unwanted intercourse" -- where you do consent but would probably really rather be doing something else. Rape is defined as intercourse where there is no consent at all on the part of someone involved.

I learn something new everyday - I've never heard of that term before but I find that very helpful instead of having to do a rambling that basically equates to 'unwanted intercourse'. Because, seriously, if I'm given the chance I'll ramble and never think of a concise term unless prompted... a lot.
