i find it a bit ironic that it's a secret about wanting all the cast to have success yet chris is the only one not covered in text. perhaps that was the point, idk.

though i agree that they should all get attention. there's usually only one ~break-out star~ however.

I think that was the point, yeah. Like, he's the only one getting recognition or media attention.

LOVE the avatar. Who's the artist?

Thanks, I love it! It's by Isabel Samaras and it's called Embrace, part of a series of paintings reworking the Red Riding Hood tale.

I would love all of them for be the biggest star ever, but I think that if only one of them achieves great fame that they would all be nothing but happy for that person.

It may seem that Chris O'Dowd is the standout, but that might just because he was front and center in a blockbuster movie. Richard Ayoade isn't doing too bad for himself either, he is just doing it from behind the camera. Richard's indie movie Submarine has achieved critical acclaim on both sides of the ocean. He also directed an episode of Community which earns him a prominent place on my list of favorite people.

Good point. It might be more important that Richard Ayoade is getting recognition behind the camera. How many important black directors can you name? ONE. How many important black directors are there? ONE (and he's been slumming lately, IMO.)

"How many important black directors are there? ONE"

You will never read this because it's two weeks later, but even in a "in 2011" context Lee Daniels and John Singleton say hi. Spike Lee is not the only black director getting work.

For what it's worth, I was completely unaware of him until "Bridesmaids," and was then lead to checking out the show. So...mixed blessing, maybe?

[identity profile] greatbriton.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, hasn't Richard Ayoade just had a successful movie he directed? "Submarine"?

Matt Berry's style of acting/comedy isn't something that would probably end up getting huge over here in the states sadly.

Katherine Parkinson is brilliant and hilarious.

I think they're all definitely successful and will continue to be but in different ways as different people go different routes, it's bound to happen. Movie stardom isn't the only form of success in entertainment.

which is weird, because out of everything I've seen him in, I think he's the funniest when paired with Rich Fulcher, an American. I think if Fulcher can Britishize his humor with the help of Berry, Berry can certainly Americanize his humor with the help of Fulcher. I think he's hilarious in an early Amy Poehler way, anyhow.

I went to see Bridesmaids at the last minute with my friends because I discovered Chris was in the trailer. I was like, ROMANTIC PLOT WITH CHRIS? MUST SEE! :D

He didn't let me down, he was adorable.

I hope they all become famous, anon. I think they will.

[identity profile] frackin-sweet.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE THEM ALL!! It just made me happy to see this secret.

Also, try turning it off and then on again.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
what does privilege have to do with your secret? am I missing something?

[identity profile] ladderax.livejournal.com 2011-06-03 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Chris O'Dowd is a white male.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-03 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But the black actor's now a successful director, right? I know race is always an issue, but I would imagine he isn't getting acting roles because he doesn't want to be an actor.

[identity profile] shy-nerthuserce.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm assuming you've not seen it, so...

Wait until you see him in the BBC's The Crimson Petal and the White, OP...talk about a revelation! :¬)

...Not to mention a lot of naughty rumpo scenes... ;¬)
