I don't think you sound self-congratulatory. I think you sound well-intentioned and sincere, and that's a wonderful thing.

[identity profile] goobbledigook.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, that's a toughtful thing to do, OP. I'm sure the authors are grateful that you took your time to apreciate their writing. :)

[identity profile] lady-wormtongue.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet the authors really appreciate that!

[identity profile] prosodi.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking as an author: thank you SO MUCH.

[identity profile] havemy-heart.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
You are awesome :)

(Anonymous) 2011-06-01 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people don't give two fucks about reviews. Maybe you should go easy on your reviewing so you can stop missing out on all the other stuff.

[identity profile] deciphre.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
... Really?
In the world I live in, a majority of people get very few reviews/comments, if any at all, and appreciate them very much.

[identity profile] catystorm.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
On behalf of those mediocre writers who treasure each and every rare review they get, thank you. <3

[identity profile] elaboration.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Whenever someone takes the time to write out a thoughtful review (negative or positive) for me I'm thrilled. Thank you so much for taking the time and energy.

[identity profile] tamabonotchi.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's fanfics, OP. You can always catch up on fanfics and leave comments. I bet people really appreciate your though-out reviews.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Unless you made the secret to get pats on the back for it, no that is not self-congratulating. You're pretty nice for doing that :)

Still. Relax. You can hold back on your reviews and enjoy a read without obligation (or every now and then if you're that determined to be obliged).

[identity profile] lemon-m.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's so sweet of you! Don't worry about missing fics- they're not going anywhere... much, and even then another good one will come along eventually. But don't stress so much about it either- reviews can be thoughtful and not long or incredibly detailed. Most of the time knowing someone enjoyed the fic is good enough.

Surely there's a happy medium. Even frequently reviewing fanfics is great; nobody is expecting you to review every single one that you read.

[identity profile] stunt-muppet.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
This is the opposite of self-congratulatory, anon. You're fabulous. :D

Adding my voice to the chorus, anon: you rock for taking the time to leave a detailed review! Considering the blood, sweat, and tears that can go into writing stories "for fun," any sort of feedback is generally welcomed with a gigantic squee, hehe. All the better if its detailed!

[identity profile] chibisah.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
As a fanfic writer, I adore all reviews - but none make me happier than the ones who really go in-depth with their opinions and interpretations of my writing. You are so amazing, OP. <3 <3

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
You are fantastic. As a fanfic writer, thank you. Just thank you so much.

[identity profile] nataliadarimini.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
If I find a writer I really like, I sometimes just read everything they've written in one go and then write one e-mail/loveletter. I don't know if it saves time as such, but it saves me feeling like an idiot trying to write eleven different pieces of feedback for their eleven different stories.

[identity profile] deciphre.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Like the rest above me, this doesn't sound self-congratulatory at all. <3
It makes me happy people like you exist.

[identity profile] kitsune13-tam.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
anon, you're the type of reader I refer to as 'best beloved' and I adore people like you. Of course it's nice to get a 'this is great! update soon!' because it means the reader enjoyed it. But getting a review that tells me why the reader enjoyed it, their thoughts on it, the things that stood out to them...?

pure bliss.

rock on, OP anon. You're making writers' little hearts swell. You should feel good about yourself. I certainly do.

[identity profile] frostoria.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry about it, OP. I do the same thing, but I don't stress myself out about it. Even just two or three sentences telling the fic author your opinion would be really appreciated.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
it's so nice *__*
I'm sure your reviews make the authors very happy and inspirited them to continue
you are the best reader/audience <3
but if it became a problem for you - well, don't push your self, take a break and allow your self to read stuff w/o commenting (or just write smt short) - at least one fic a week w/o big review.
cheers ^ ^)/

[identity profile] tari-silmarwen.livejournal.com 2011-06-03 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
You're the best kind of reviewer there is. Don't be ashamed.
