I must bow before you almighty god since obviously you get to choose what other people write in their journals.

In other words, get over yourself.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Why people choose to pay $ to see things they already know they won't enjoy, especially at the prices movie tix are currently going for, is something I will never understand. Read some goddamn reviews before hitting the box office.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So they can make a big deal of how superior their taste is to all the peoples' who actually enjoyed watching it, would be my guess.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
This. That's exactly what my brother's ex-girlfriend used to do all the time. She'd go see a movie with him (one he was excited to see), then she'd spend the next week bitching to him about how much it sucked and how dumb he was for enjoying it.

It's all about wanting to feel more intelligent/more cultured/somehow better than other people. When really, they just end up looking like a complaining dickface.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm not exactly supporting overly obnoxious amounts of bitchery, but to be fair, at least they can say that they actually watched it. Say you hate something you haven't seen and suddenly your opinion is entirely invalid.

Hate something before it came out, then bitch about how much you were right and only the people who knew you were determined to hate it before seeing it will think your opinion invalid. XD

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Comparing someone complaining about movies in one fandom to someone who complains about all movies is not a valid syllogism.

And, I'm so glad someone with a psychology degree showed up to educate the rest of us! Thank you!

Dickface, indeed.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
What? Was I comparing the two? I don't think I was. I was just...I dunno, I was just making a comment. Thanks for getting all up my ass about it, though, jeez. O__o

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Did you mean to make the comment in another secret's thread? Perhaps you really meant it to have nothing to do with secret #25? People have done that in this comm before - it wouldn't be that unusual, actually.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
They didn't say anything about the ex hating all movies. Given the context of the thread, I think the implication's pretty clear that anon meant to say she went to see movies she knew she wouldn't like just to rub it in her bf's face later.

Anyway, your comment is all kinds of weird. You're reading so much into anon's words I don't even know where the hell you're getting all this from.

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Let me break this down for you:

This. (Agreeing with the previous comment about making a big deal of superior taste. Which was in response to someone wanting to know why people would go to movies they don't like.)

That's exactly what my brother's ex-girlfriend used to do all the time. She'd go see a movie with him (one he was excited to see), then she'd spend the next week bitching to him about how much it sucked and how dumb he was for enjoying it. (I don't see anything here that says it's not referring to all movies. The word "some" is nowhere around, and there's nothing to suggest it's just one time, either.)

(Anonymous) 2011-06-02 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
She'd go see a movie with him (one he was excited to see)

...I doubt that means ALL movies.

Hot damn, though, you are making way too big a deal about that comment.

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hot damn, you keep wanting to argue. You stepped in. Be principled and don't reply. ;-)

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, I hope you do, anon

[identity profile] irvys-sefie.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So...rather than just defriending this person and saving yourself the daily irritation, you instead chose to spend your time making this secret, and planning on ways to get back at them by doing the exact same thing that you're annoyed at them for doing? Okay then...don't you have anything better to do?

[identity profile] swaggerdoodle.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much MTE.

[identity profile] beriel.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, passive-aggressive journal war.

[identity profile] anthropomorphe.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
cry about it

...or post a bitchy secret about it

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like one of those jerks a few years ago who told fans who didn't cream themselves over DMC that they were just too stupid to "get" the genius of it. If they were a fan of the first one and can't get into the subsequent ones, maybe they feel a wee bit betrayed by the same writers/producers who led them into enjoying the first one, then changed some of the characterization/tone in the sequels. I don't like everything about the sequels, either - and if I want to say so IN MY OWN FUCKING JOURNAL without running it past my f-listers first, I'll do so.

:-)

Story tiemz!

I watched DMC yesterday and fast-forwarded through all scenes not involving Cutler Beckett and Norrington. It's the best version I've ever seen.

/cool story, bro

[identity profile] veronica-rich.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
See, you can't do that in the theater! ;-)

[identity profile] forever-alone.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
The pettiness of this is rather sad. Why emulate behavior you find annoying and bitchy?

[identity profile] masked-creator.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure if your friend hasn't realized how much this annoys you she/he isn't going to get it just because you do the same. And imitating behavior you find annoying isn't the key to solving the problem. Try filtering your friends' list for a while and calm the heck down.

[identity profile] twenty-rooks.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's like the comment I read the other day, from someone who was going to watch... was it Supernatural? Or Doctor Who? Well, the new episode of either of them anyway. She said that she'd already decided she was going to hate it. I mean, what? If you're already decided before even watching it, why even watch it?

Also, I think everybody knows that it's pretty much impossible to get a good impression of something you go into with a negative mindset. No matter the quality.

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a friend who does this (goes into something knowing he's not going to like it and never changes his mind - alternatively if he's convinced it's going to be good it would take an act of god to convince him otherwise even if it's a total piece of shit) and it's fucking aggravating. It's to the point where I mention the film/show/game first before I ask him to see/play it with me, and if I see him start to sneer I don't bother. Even if it turned out to be amazing. He can go rain on his own parade. (Ironically, afterwards he'll often ask me why I didn't invite him and I answer him honestly: "you didn't seem like you were interested". And then he's sad, because he missed an opportunity to trash something and he'll have to go ruin someone else's experience instead ;p)

tl;dr - I feel you OP, but it's still her journal. If you really can't stand it, filter her or take her off your flist. Heck, I've been defriended over a single negative post about FFXII before - it wouldn't be the first in the history of Livejournal. She writes what she wants to write, you read what you want to read.
