I don't know, OP, I'm inclined to agree with you (especially about the fanservice) but do realize that the main character is still a teenaged boy, even though he's a shut in. Actually, all of them are teenagers. Maybe when we were teens, we weren't like that but I still think it's viable to the plot (like when that guy tried to take Anaru to the love hotel).

Also remember: Menma died when she was a kid - of course she's going to be the token moe character with moe character tendencies. That sounds a little nitpicky, OP! :(

I like to think those overemotional crying scenes are pretty important to the plot. And as for the series' obsession with Anaru's virginity, I admit, it's pretty bad.

I love AnoHana because it's mysterious and they're doing a splendid job, plot wise (I gotta admit, I'm really stingy about wanting to know more about Menma's house life). But there are flaws in AnoHana - there's no denying that.

I suppose it's the people I talk to on and offline about it but most people react to Madoka similar to how

anthropomorphe, and others here react to it. ;A; Also I'm not those frothing "IT'S THE BEST EVAR" fans, at least I'd like to think I'm not, I just thought it was pretty good for what it was.

I know a lot of people that thought it was really awesome, don't worry about it, so you're not alone. They're the reason I was debating trying to watch it, but lol I sort of couldn't get past the art. I think that was the only thing putting me off it. I'd be a lot more open-minded if they didn't all look like they were made up of blobby punchingbags.

But yeah. My view is actually the unpopular one!

Well, it's like I said, it's the crowd I hang out with. XD; A lot of them didn't like Madoka so I've learned to keep my mouth shut (because I didn't want them to judge me more than they already do).

I'd judge you if you watched Kon/Clannad and thought either of those were in any way GOOD. But aside from that!

Okay, I get it: there is an excuse for moe. My question is, why does it have to be one? Why does Menma have to be cute in such a forced way instead of a more natural one? Is it really necessary to have her straddle Jinta and fall asleep on top of him?

That's fanservice, I'm sorry. The series has its strong points, but the pandering is undeniable.

And no, you're definately not the only one who liked Madoka Magica. I loved it :)

Not going to lie, there's a lot pandering, see: the opening sequence and ~~all~~ most of Anaru's shots. I actually was about to turn it off right then until Anaru couldn't see Menma. Then it was like, "WAIT, WHAT?"

That's actually a good question on why she has to keep it. But I want to say (and please forgive me for putting in my own theory/head canon here) that Menma is a lost soul. She's lost because of the final wish that she could just not remember but yet she still hasn't crossed over just yet because of that. What does this have to do with her being a moe fanservicey? It has a lot, actually. She might look older (she might have done this to better appeal Jinta's, um, better nature [I'm not sure how to put this right so forgive me if this sounds really bad] unknowingly) but she's, really, the same child that died those years ago.

Her personality didn't change even after all those years even though, clearly, the rest of the cast did. She's well aware that she's dead but she doesn't know why she's still wandering the earth. She doesn't know that wish she has.

As for straddling Jinta, yeah, I can understand how that's fanservice but I like to think that's just her mind thinking, "Oh, Jinta's asleep so I'll just sleep on top of him!" ...Gah, I'm not sure what I'm trying to say here. -_-;

Same here, actually! It's not the first time in the history of fiction that we have a plot of "I see dead people", but it was quite unexpected in that context. And it works well. AnoHana does a good job on a basic level.

I understand your point and I agree. In-universe, it's all completely innocent. What bugs me are the implications that it has for the audience. All that panning on Anaru's legs is not accidental, too =_=

Madoka is awesome. I get that people don't like the artstyle (I'm not a fan of it myself), but the story and the characters are great ♥

Yeah. But then it doesn't help that the friends she made dress are made that way too. :\ But yeah. I think Anaru is an amazing character and I'd love to learn more about her but I just hate all the fanservice and hardly any substance. -_-

This! Well, I'm one of the few who did like the art - I love the cutesy stuff but to a point, you know? ♥
