There's good reason for your fandom friends to think so... but since I don't know you I can't generalize and think you want to be one of those white weebs who think Japan is welcoming of everything, when in fact, it's conservative and exclusionary.

[identity profile] inferno04.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU.

I'm so so so sick of people thinking it's the best most welcoming and alternative place IN DA WAURLD. My ex thought this and I repetadely told him, "They're very xenophobic and would NOT welcome your loud overbearing nature." Well...in nicer words back then. >.>

I think the same way about Sweden, and that it's the most amazing place ever in the entire universe galaxy existence and I would like nothing more than to live in that glorious and wonderful country full of magic and unicorns and beauty and perfectness.

But that's different.

Because it's Sweden.

And it's perfect.

I wouldn't mind living in Sweden, either.

[identity profile] anthropomorphe.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Of course! Sweden is the most magnificent thing to have ever been realized, so that is only natural.

To be fantastic enough to live in Sweden should be everyone's life goal. The world would be a better place.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I sort felt that way about England.

Oh heck, who'm I kidding, I still feel that way about England, and I went and lived there for awhile. If I didn't love staying near my family and friends, I'm move back in a heartbeat.

[identity profile] anthropomorphe.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've lived in it all my life. It's shit and it rains and David Cameron is a wanker.

But lol I might just live in a crappy area? At least it's not Liverpool or Essex

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I lived in London, so there was the added bonus of big city with loads to do.

Don't get me wrong--I like where I live. We have the best food and music in the States, even if it's hot as hell all the time (another thing I liked about England--it actually got cold! I like the cold).

There was just an atmosphere to it that I liked, the fun of walking around and finding new places, going to parks, delicious old architecture, pubs (yeah, there really aren't any "pubs" in the States...bars aren't quite the same thing, and I've never liked them much).

Hey there are nice parts of Liverpool and Essex! An area is what you make it.

England can get pretty xenophobic too. :( A lot of us just keep it to ourselves, though.

But I think the xenophobia's gotten a lot better in recent years.

[identity profile] tamabonotchi.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ohgod I want to live in Sweden. Whenever someone asked me what country I want to visit I always said Sweden and they would give me a confused look and it seemed no one understood how amazing the country really is.

[identity profile] anthropomorphe.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
WHO DOESN'T WANT TO LIVE IN SWEDEN ON SOME SUBCONCIOUS LEVEL. IT'S THE MOST BRILLIANT LANDMASS TO GRACE THIS EARTH.

I would totally live in Denmark if I could speak even a hint of Danish and if everything wasn't twenty times as expensive as anywhere else. So, you know, I wouldn't live there. But I totally agree about its awesomeness.

[identity profile] anthropomorphe.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Denmark seems pretty awesome, too! And Finland. And Iceland.

...But Sweden is obviously still the most wonderful country ever. Yeah. :|

I'd actually really love to live in Ancient Rome. Discrimination and classism and all.

I don't actually think that was what the secret was talking about. I got the idea the OP was referring to the lack of individualism and the ideals of all-as-one in Japan. Which, in itself, is a generalization, but more accurate than 'LAND OF ANIME'
