I don't know, I'm not really in the Hetalia fandom, but I do read a few works of historical fiction people on my flist label "Hetalia" but range in setting from when England would be more properly called "Albion" to the present day.

So I didn't know if they were playing fast and loose with Hetalia canon and he somehow transmogrifies into a single entity when he leaves the British Isles and becomes a bunch of separate canon characters when he's "with" them (if they're the same person wouldn't he be "with" them all the time?) or what.

If that's actually the case that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard and I can see why they're twisting it to make it less stupid.
