Okay, I get this to a certain degree, I had been speaking to my now former friend about this for the last year because he and I are both Korean and adopted living in America with two very white parents. The difference is that I've fully accepted and embraced that I'm American, that's my cultural identity, and regardless of how many people initially assume otherwise, it doesn't change the fact that I am ethnically American.

He, on the other hand, is struggling immensely. He hates that he can't control how others perceive him and wants his identity to be obvious to others. The reason that we're no longer friends is he decided I was a piece of shit for calling myself American and not Korean American, not recognizing Korea as being any part of my dominant identity, and telling people that I'm American when they ask me where I'm from. I'm technically from Korea as I was born there, but I spent all but 4 months of my life in America raised in a white middle class American household. I don't see anything wrong with believing several cultures are part of your identity, but I think in my case it's obvious as to why I don't identify as Korean.

Identity is a very personal thing and it's yours to control. It's part of your agency. Don't let others try to dictate that for you.
