I understand that life goes on and real life affects shows and actors. When Kari from Mythbusters got pregnant, I didn't throw a bitchfit about it. But it's not just in this particular fandom that superfluous baby/pregnancy plotlines exist. Recently, a book I was really enjoying turned considerably less enjoyable after a character got pregnant. I know that many people think babies are adorable and pregnancy is beautiful, but it's just not my cup of tea.

wtf? Mythbusters isn't a scripted drama. Emily Deschanel is pregnant, and pregnant people... look pregnant. They have to write it into the script. It's not a "superfluous" plot.

Just three shows (two of which were dramas) featuring a noticeably pregnant actress whose character was not written as pregnant. Just off the top of my head. So "have" doesn't play into it, really.

No... but it probably made sense if they were already planning to have Bones & Booth hook up at the end of the season. Oh, hey, the actress is pregnant, we can just add that in! It's not totally unreasonable.

This is also quite an old one, but the actress that played Abby Lockhart in ER was pregnant, but they didn't make the character pregnant. They just hid her behind things when the bump began to show.

Both actresses in How I Met Your Mother were pregnant in one season (I think, briefly, simultaneously), and they kind of went out of their way with 'hide the bump' gags.

I meant that I don't throw a cow when people on shows get pregnant. :/ It's not like I throw my hands over my eyes and go, "Oh, your pregnant belly disgusts me; the show is ruined FOREVER!"

And it IS a "superfluous plot" in plenty of books(in which it is a major pet peeve), which I'm not going to name because they are my opinions and my opinions only.
