True but the Doctor at the present time is only just starting to warm to River. And this is still the Doctor who she keeps saying isn't "her" Doctor - the man who apparently knows her so well and she speaks about with such awe and love. If they're so close then why aren't they travelling together instead of her on her own meeting his younger selves? Hopefully there is a legit reason behind this but if it's just supposed to be coying The Time Traveller's Wife then it fails to be romantic to me at all.

But if they are meeting each other in different times, is that the Doctor's fault? I don't know what the 'Time Traveller's Wife' is, so I can't comment on that but I thought the premise of River and the Doctor is that neither are at fault as to the circumstance of their relationship are completely out of their control.

That's why I'm hoping there's a legit reason because as it stands at the moment, the Doctor is the one with the time machine. Which means it's most likely their meetings (at least after he knows who she is) would mean the ball is in his court. River even says that he turned up on her doorstep on their final meeting in a suit with a new haircut, implying that their meetings aren't always coincidental.

It's just the way companions have always work, they meet the Doctor, they spend time with him and eventually they leave. The River we've met so far has apparently travelled in the TARDIS so what causes her to leave if they apparently had this great epic love (presuming that's what their relationship is based on what's been hinted at so far).

Well yes, but at by the time he knows her well enough he also knows that they can't travel together because that's not what happened, and he can't cross his own timeline. That's how I'm reading it anyway, feel free to correct me.
