Wasn't that just a fan theory though? I don't think Valve has ever explicitly stated GLaDOS is supposed to look like...well...anything.

While the art provided may be fanart, GLaDOS's design was definitely inspired by Botticelli’s Venus. I can't find the link I was looking at before (it may have been on Cracked), but it isn't too hard to google (though I'll try to come back with the link I had, later). The idea that she looks like a tied up woman isn't too far fetched.

Major Spoilers beyond this point.


Remember how Cave decided that Caroline's mind should be put into a computer? I don't remember if there were bits of this in game, but there are unused audio clips of her refusing to be put into a computer. She was either tied up to her loyalty to her boss or forced against her will into having her mind put into a GLaDOS. Also, the name Caroline means "free man".

There are voice clips of Caroline begging for Cave not to go through with putting her into GLaDOS. The reason it didn't get put in is because Cave's voice actor refused to record his lines for that scene... because he said it sounded too much like rape.
