Googling statistics now, and I'm amazed. I would have assumed there to be way more bisexuals out there based on all the people I've known in rl going from place to place. I never just ran into another open lesbian until I went out of my way to find a date in a f/f centric place, but I was running into bisexual ladies constantly.

female bisexuals are more common for two reasons: 1) it's somehow more acceptable than being lesbian, so they can more easily identify as such even if they're really only interested in girls; and 2) it's considered hot, so straight girls can identify as such and increase their sex appeal and popularity.

So I guess what I mean is, "females who identify as bisexual", since that's a different group altogether from actual female bisexuals.

That... just rubs me the wrong way...

So, apparently, to boost her appeal, a girl can claim she's bisexual and be generally more accepted by society provided that she's attractive, despite she could really be straight and just 'lezzing' it up (for lack of a better word) to be noticed.

But when a guy does it in society, it usually generates "LOLOLOL he likes cawk what a fag" reactions in the public sphere.

That's just how it seems to me...

Pretty much, although it's not totally accurate depending on location. There are some areas where a girl coming out as bisexual is still a really bad idea.

But you see a lot of complaint in lesbian communities about "bisexual" women who are really just there to play around and go back to their boyfriend later. It's part of why I prefer the label pansexual; it's considered a bit more "serious", plus I don't like how bisexual reinforces the idea of a gender binary.

Male bisexuals get a lot more shit from both sides, from my understanding. It's sad.

Yeah well who you are/where you live tends to reflect in who you know. I grew up in a small town only knowing one (for sure) gay guy. If I lived in a larger town with a pride parade or something I might have known more. If I were gay myself I'd probably know a lot more considering I'd be seeking them. That's why demographics are so skewed on the internet. You look for what you like so, of course, those people are like you.

It may not be completely accurate due to voter turnout. There probably won't ever be a completely accurate "picture" of the US because people will choose to abstain for whatever reason.
