I feel the same, just with Unohana instead of Komamura.
When I just started to watch Bleach, he was my favourite Captain.
I wanted to know who his people were (perhaps they are from hell?) and how he got to Soul Society, why he is so loyal to Yamamoto etc. etc
But really? I doubt Kubo will ever touch on it. He probably just designed him without much thought at all.
At least there was his talk with Tousen...

Agreed on both points.

1. Will we ever find out WHY the hell there is a giant dog/fox thing in the soul society?
2. Will we ever actually see Unohana do anything besides be really good at healing people offscreen and scaring the shit out of other people with no explanation besides "she's supposed to be very powerful"?

I really hate it when awesomeness/interesting stuff is only IMPLIED or HINTED at without there being resolution everrr... talk about informed ability. Not that Kubo is likely to live up to this potential.
We know random stuff about the Vice Captains, but there was never a conversation between Iba and his captain, about, I dunno,
"huh, so this is what your face looks like"?
