No, but when I dislike something, I don't perceive its merits. So I don't understand what people are enjoying about it.

It's really beyond your understanding that some people can find something to like in a fandom that you don't? Because that's really all you ever have to understand. You don't have to follow the specifics to understand that you don't have to enjoy something for it to be enjoyable to other people.

Also it's pretty . . . shallow? Stupid? to be completely unable to perceive something's merits just because it isn't your taste.

You don't have to be able to perceive the merits, just acknowledge that other people are allowed to have a different taste from you and that both are equally valid.
