This whole secret and some comments reek of gender essentialism to me (at least,when it comes to Shepard/Hawke reactions) so I can't take them seriously.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this!

...Yeah. Sigh. I relate with fem!Shep more than any other "supposed to be a woman" game I've ever played.

Nor do I think it unrealistic in the slightest that someone who chose to become a career soldier in combat arms might have a similarly coded "masculine" experience, for the most part.

OP is assuming not only that women all have the same experiences, but are also treated the same way by all societies everywhere.

Not the same, but similar. And unless you're arguing that the ME world has completely done away with sexism (which I find really hard to buy considering things like the lack of female aliens aside from asari everywhere) most women in that universe will have experienced it.

But I'm arguing less for different responses from F!Shep and more different responses from the people she encounters. That's not really gender essentialism, I don't think - that's just acknowledging that people have biases and treat people differently based on gender.
