As a reader who doesn't like to be spoiled, this attitude really annoys me. Is it so bad to want to have that first unspoiled experience where you don't know what's going to happen and therefore experience events as the characters themselves do? (Unless the character is River Song, I guess, who does know what's going to happen. ;) If writers to want to be able to give their readers that experience, why do so many people insist that means they're not a good writer?

I'm just glad that we've come up with various ways that people who need warnings can get them while people who don't want them don't get spoiled. Why people feel like they have to pick one side or another of what could be a win-win scenario baffles me.

Why is it so fucking important, though? It frustrates and baffles me when people are so spoiler-phobic, particularly when that's considered so much more important than just, you know, not upsetting people who just had a family member die or whatever. I'm always stuck wondering how boring their life must be that they consider the tiny, tiny extra thrill of not knowing to be so damn important.

I realize that probably comes off as incredibly rude, but I really, genuinely DON'T GET how this could possibly change the impact of the story that much. Either you're into the story enough for it to have an emotional impact, or you're not. Knowing the plot shouldn't change that.

You're right, it does come off as incredibly rude when you pass judgment on people's lives because of their spoiler preferences.

No, I'm passing judgment on their priorities and lack of empathy, bb.
