I feel your pain, OP. I walked by a guy in the dining hall who was wearing a Portal shirt. I was wearing my Half-Life 2 shirt. When I turned to say something, he was already gone. And I never saw him again. :(

A similar thing happened to me. :(
When I was walking out of class, a guy was waiting outside the classroom, talking to his friend about Resident Evil. His friend didn't really know what he was talking about, and I was so tempted to say something, but thought it might be rude.

I assumed he'd be there next week for the same class. But I never saw him again :(

Hmm... Does your college have a gaming club or some sort of social event you could attend? Maybe your potential friend would be there! The odds of finding him or her and a social event are probably better than anywhere else on campus.

Or maybe try wearing your jacket again around the same place at the same time? Try your luck! I hope you find your potential friend, OP!

I'm always wearing my N7 hoodie on my campus for this exact sort of thing -- I'd love for someone to come up and chat with me about it. I'm usually too shy to approach anyone else, though.

I moved to Austin last year.

I never thought it was a wrong choice, but I knew it was completely the right choice when a guy came up to me at the grocery store while I was wearing that hoodie and he said to me, "Hello, Commander Shepard."

One time I was in a Tokyo train station listing to Nirvana on my ipod, and right then a girl in a Nirvana t-shirt walked past me! It was so weeeeeird.

But I'm pretty sure that if I ran after her, I woulda got maced. Not that I think you would have got maced, of course. I hope you two bump into each other again!

I'm sorry, I hope you bump into them again.

I don't wear fandom clothing (mostly because I can't afford it), but I try to sometimes send out a geek signal and see if anyone will bite. I used to work by a book store and would frequent it to check out the graphic novel and gaming magazine sections secretly hoping someone would start a conversation about it with me. Except I think people are too polite and don't want to bother other people.

I'm not much better. Most of the time I don't want to be rude. I saw a guy playing L4D at the PS3 demo station at Best Buy a few weeks ago. I was tempted to ask if I could join in, but I chickened out. Didn't help that I was there helping my mom buy a tablet (I'm her tech expert heh) though.
