One time at Walmart I was walking near the sporting goods, and some kid honked a bike horn. I jumped into the air and scurried away, no lie.

A friend of mine had a similar experience at a Target. They were with someone who doesn't know about Homestuck and heard a honk. They froze and asked the other person if they'd heard that, but the other person hadn't. They kept hearing honks, getting closer, and were starting to freak out a little because the other person wasn't hearing them. And finally a kid test-driving a bike rounded the corner of the aisle they were in.

Yeah, I'm the OP. (Sorry, thought I had remembered to put it in the subject.) I didn't really lose sleep that night, just had a minor panic attack because I do not deal well with sudden loud noises.

If your secret is found to be unsupported by your mental state, you are fed to dogs. Not even angry dogs, really cute ones that don't understand your suffering, and who pant happily while you weep. Serves you right for having a dumb secret, or forgetting to give full disclosure on your mental condition in a secret where the inclusion of such information would probably be awkward and out of place.

HAHA OH GOD. It's never been in question that my sense of humour is that of a hyperactive four-year-old.
