There is more to character than medium.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah so I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you are also vehemently opposed to fanart of novels, as well as illustrations of scenes from the same or paintings/sculptures depicting scenes from myth or stories. Since WORDS are part of the original work's storytelling and characterization, using solely VISUALS is inherently OOC.

I like characters for how they act, and their personality, not how they look. Personality can be expressed quite easily through verbal, non-visual means.

[identity profile] kilaen.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry for your being born without an imagination. :(

[identity profile] alliterations.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, can you not picture these things in your head? Good writing should allow you to picture things very vividly and with true clarity...hell, even badly written things should be able to do that. I can't tell you how many times I've pictured some of the things with unfortunate phrasing over at [livejournal.com profile] weepingcock and burst into hysterics.

It's what ~*imagination*~ is for after all!

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Is... this some kind of joke? Or trolling? Is it referencing something--maybe those people who think it's OOC to write a character not shown to have interest in the same sex as gay...?

I feel like I'm missing something here.

laughing my ass off over here

[identity profile] radio-nurse.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's amazing people are giving serious responses to this secret.

[identity profile] wolfiemon.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't make any sense.

At all.

wtf!

[identity profile] crimsontriforce.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Multimedia franchises must blow your mind.

Or text-heavy multimodal products.

Also the idea that translating a visual language into words might be an interesting challenge.

Unless you were trolling or referencing something, in which case I'm lost.

brb playing 999.

Whatever.

[identity profile] stunt-muppet.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
...well, this is different, at least.

[identity profile] blackjackrocket.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
So how do you feel about scripts? Video games, movies, tv shows, cartoons--they're not usually improv, unless they involve Wayne Brady.

Good one, anon.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
wow

i'm guessing you don't like official novelizations of visual media lol

but yeah basically... you seem to have very little imagination. shame. :[

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
by that logic, adapting screenplays and other written material for film and games is heresy.

what is this secret idek. you are weird. weirdo.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
All I can guess is that you're either trollin' hard or you've got some kind of retardation.

O-kay. I don't much care for fic of literature. When it's the same media, I would rather just read the book.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ehm, fanworks are essentially meant to be different - or they'd be canon. I think it's interesting to explore a character in a different medium.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Comprehension of the term "OOC" fail.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)

Look at you, OP, being all edgy

[identity profile] decidedtostarve.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
This is ridiculous. You are ridiculous.

I hope to goodness you're a troll, or else I just feel fucking sorry for you.

(Anonymous) 2011-06-07 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
fanfiction is an adaptation - or more than an adaptation, but the point is that fanfiction is something that the original thing is not. fanfiction is different from the original. that's inherent in the nature of the thing. it's fundamentally no different from fanfiction of a novel. "pigeon droppings on a monument," as nabokov put it in discussing the problem of translation.

[identity profile] robintheshrew.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
