As a hater of crappy reboot costumes I love her return to the classic leotard. She's a freakin' Amazon. I doubt she's going to catch a chill anywhere short of Antarctica and can't believe anything from man's world would be tougher than her own flesh or bracelets. So, with the exception of Amazonian armor, I think her leotard is perfectly acceptable. In fact I saw that outfit as trying to fit into "Man's World" and dressing how our culture would have her dress. I mean she's from a semi-tropical island full of warrior women, they rock short togas and sandals on Paradise Island so I see her reversion as a an embrace of that heritage. (But then again I'm not a huge Wonder Woman fan so I could be way off.)

I've always wondered why the hell she'd be wrapped in the American flag, if we go with the story's internal logic and not the meta reasoning. :/

True, and things like stars and eagles weren't exactly unpopular in cultures like Rome, for example. Although now that I've actually looked (http://www.carolastrickland.com/comics/wwcentral/costume_indices/wwcost6.html) for answers (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/wonderverse/news/?a=19448), apparently it is based off the American flag:
