OP not sure why this is a secret... is wanting to join the Brotherhood and fighting against human persecution/standing up for Mutant Rights a bad thing?

Plus they have cooler clothes.

The problem is, in the movieverse, the Brotherhood wants human genocide. They are not for "mutant rights", they are for genocide.

Would this be First Class movieverse? Because in the later films they're more interested in turning all humans into mutants, thus nullifying the problem of discrimination against the mutant minority.

I find the way the Brotherhood goes about things to be rather drastic and clearly problematic, but I can certainly see their side of it, particularly Erik's. Having his personal history with the nazi concentration camps and seeing firsthand what real persecution of a particular group looks and feels like, it's no wonder he sees the same sort of persecution of mutantkind happening in the future, and compares how mutants are treated now as a precursor to that, and will do anything to prevent that coming to pass.

I can't comment on First Class at all though, as it's not even been released in my entire little country. I'm having to fly across the sea to see it next week! UGH.

Yep, in the First Class movieverse. Actually, I find Magneto way more sympathetic in the comicverse. The Malclom X/Martin Luther King analogy is more fit in the comicverse than the movieverse,

In the first film, yes. In second film the "kill all humans" part basically killed the movieverse for me. As far as I know, Magneto in the comics *never* advocated that *never*. In that part of the film, he became what he said he hated, his hypocrisy was clearer than ever. And in "First Class" as far as I know, he was basically supporting Shaw way of thought. However, he couldn't support him because Shaw murdered his (human, it seems Erik forgot) mother.

I'm way way more knowledgeable about comicverse than movieverse in all honesty.

BUT I FINALLY GET TO SEE FIRST CLASS NEXT WEEK. All it took me was a £180 hour and a half flight to another country. Humbug :(

Wow! Yes, that is dedication. Even though I'm not that warm towards the filmverse, it is a great film. I think you'll enjoy it.
