That's odd. Are you friends with celebrities or something? Because at that point I feel like you might expect it. But if it's just "normal people" and people wrote RPF about them, then I guess that's a little odd

I have trouble imagining most SA LPers being friends with someone who wrote RPF in the first place, given that even the most innocuous of gen fanfiction tends to get an "ew, you're creepy, go away" reaction in those parts. Though it's possible that they keep their SA identity very separate from their fic-writing identity, I guess.

Then why didn't you request that nobody prompt about you? Zyx clearly stated--and technophile seconded the message later--that if one did not want to be the subject of any prompts, all they had to do was PM a mod and we would make a note that prompts featuring X User were not allowed, and then delete all previously existing fills.

The meme was intended to be only for those who wanted to participate/didn't mind being written about, but there's nothing we can do if you don't let us know that it makes you uncomfortable.

For what it's worth, I'm terribly sorry that you were disturbed.

Well, I didn't really want to out myself. I didn't have a problem with it much at first, until I thought I'd read one of the fics for a laugh and just started getting really creeped out. By that point the damage was done though, so I just clicked away from the page and never looked back. It was weird and uncomfortable, but it's just as easy to not look at it as it is to put to kibosh on everyone else's good time. I'm not here to be the fun police, and if someone else is getting a kick out of it then that's good for them. I just realized that it wasn't something I really wanted to be a part of. Plus, I kind of like to hope I'm mature enough to not throw a hissy fit over words on the internet, lol.

Soooooo......don't read the fic you find of the people you know IRL? That really isn't that difficult. *scratches head*

I'm in a fandom where RPS is written about people I know, and when it sketches me out I just ignore it. I'd hope those who personally know the people I write about in RPS do the same. Because I'm not going to stop writing it for them, and I wouldn't expect RPS writers to do that for me.

Not even going into the part where the fics you read aren't really about the people you know, they're characters the author has created based on the real people and most probably has no misconceptions that what they're writing is real.

Sorry you felt you had to give up on a part of your life because of what other people were writing, OP.

It's easy to say, but I know if I were to find a fic of someone I knew, I would be thinking "Hmmmm, I wonder what people are writing about this person, and what the fic is like....", no matter how many warnings there were beforehand. I'll admit it, clicking would be tempting.
