Oh, OP, you shouldn't have mentioned Sirius. Now the Draco defenders are out and full force pointing out what a mean, vicious bully that asshole Sirius is. Not that they wouldn't have done that anyway, whenever someone says that Snape or Draco are jerks, there's always someone who comes around and to say that James and Sirius were bigger jerks.

You're right - she shouldn't have used Sirius as a comparison. That immediately brought things into the irrational and unrealistic light that starts character bashing and shipwars.

Btw, not everyone disagreeing here is just defending Draco (I don't even like Draco), or saying James and Sirius are worse. But there's plenty enough unrealistic 'woobifying' of Sirius, too. Just... meh.

I think in any fandom this big a lack of 'woobifying' characters would be strange...though it does get a bit too much sometimes...

It's true. I think it's a natural occurrence - if fans love a character enough to write about them, they often become passionate and this leads to the woobifying. I think it's like someone else said somewhere in here though - this is a pretty old fandom. It's surprising when something like this pops up. You'd think it would be old hat by now.

In Mai-HiME, Yuuki Nao is a douchebag. She does some seriously bitter and assholey things out of pure spite, and I get why she does them, but I still think she's a vindictive bitch for doing them.

I also really like her character - she's my third favourite - and I think woobifying her kind of... removes all the aspects of her character that made me like her in the first place. I don't think that you can claim to love a character when you're so intent on changing things about them to make them seem nicer than they actually are.

Sure, you can write her in a way that portrays her actions as more understandable and possibly more sympathetic, but it wouldn't make her any less of an absolute wanker.

The same goes with Draco. IF YOU UNDERSTOOD THAT i'm sorry it's 4 in the morning

Because they were. And something I've noticed is that most people who say this shit about Draco fangasm over Sirius and James and they can Do No Wrong. Severus deserved all the damn humiliation he got! And Lily picked James, so he had to be a good kid!

I will now point out that Word of God has Draco raising his son to be a better man than he ever was, including less of a Purist.

Rowling actually said in an interview that Draco raised Scorpius to be a better man than him, and that Draco realized the error of his ways.

Because of that, my headcanon is that Scorpius got into Ravenclaw, highlighting the clever side of his family as opposed to the sinister side associated with Slytherin. Meanwhile, Al Potter happily became a Slytherin and helped to prove they aren't all bad.

Why do I think you equate Sirius and James fans not constantly mentioning that they could be jerks with fans thinking they could Do No Wrong?

Except I have seen them say that Severus deserved to be bullied. There are plenty out there. If they admit they have flaws? fine. But there are definitely people thinking those two can Do No Wrong. Especially flat-out Marauder fangirls. They cream their pants over Sirius and James, but the second it's pointed out they bullied and humiliated Snape?

"HE DESERVED IT, AND LOOK! JAMES GOT LILY IN THE END, SO HE CAN'T BE BAD!"

But of course, those don't exist, do they? Just like there aren't Sirius x Remus fans who think Tonks shouldn't exist because she gets in the way of their ship. ...Oh, wait.

I must have missed people saying Snape deserved to be bullied. I have seen folks say that Snape most likely gave as good as he got, I don't see how that is the same as saying he deserved any shit he received from James and Sirius.

You should've been in the chat for the RP I'm in a few months back. Someone crit'd our ex-James on the fact that he's young!James, but not seen being the ass he is. They went on a tirade in chat about how James and the Marauders weren't bullies, and that Severus deserved what he got.

I've seen it other places, too, but that was the biggest example I can think. You not seeing it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. James and Sirius are glorified often enough, excused for their bullying. Which is why I like Draco--because he's not.
