Sirius didn't pay for his bullying, though. He got away with it. His death was made out to be a huge, horrible thing that lots of people mourned and no one said a bad word about him then except the person who was humiliated by James, Sirius, Peter and Lupin. They never apologized, and no one seemed to care that they were humiliating a guy except Lily. And even then, in the end, she married James. He should have paid for his sins, but he didn't. Instead, his plot is, "Wrongly accused of something and then he dies and lots of people mourn him."

No. Sirius didn't "pay for his sins." Draco, however, did, because in the end, his family was outed as fucking Death Eaters. They likely lost all their status. What "friends" Draco had probably left him behind since he didn't really have friends.

I do think Sirius should have actually paid for his sins and not become something akin to a martyr, like James. Especially since finding out Sirius (or his own dad, at that) was a bully didn't seem to really change Harry until much later. It's why I'm frustrated with Sirius as a character. He could have been great, but he got away with the stuff he was actually guilty of.

I fail to see how 12 years of being with dementors doesn't count as punishment. It' seems a bit silly to say 'oh man, we should've punished him for this, not that.' Bad things happening is bad things happening. Period. End of sentence. Also? Draco gets married and has kids and presumably has a fairly normal life. And Harry has sympathy for Snape right away. Unfortunately, to deal with the fact that his (entirely understandable) mistake got Sirius killed, he blames Snape instead, so his hatred increases at the end of the book. Then Snape kills Dumbledore, which made Harry even more mad. So, of course he wouldn't change his POV about Snape for awhile. He has to learn that Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him to forgive Snape.

Sirius spent 12 years in prison before being murdered.

James was murdered.

Remus was murdered.

Draco got to take both his parents and go home, living in a nice, huge mansion with tons and tons of money.

Lots of bullies, only one of whom didn't die a horrific death at an early age. In two cases leaving behind extremely young babies to grow up parentless. I would say that being outed as death eaters is not quite the same as death in terms of 'paying' for his sins.
