I think when you don't have a lot of self confidence, characters or people who are confident, even if they have over the top or annoying traits, are something to be admired.

I have a friend who has some traits I definitely wouldn't want but it's hard to not admire their self confidence. It makes me think that sometimes I'm being silly when I'm so paranoid about being judging me and that maybe I'd be better off in life if I said I loved myself and screw the haters.

I barely ever watched that show, but there was one line from an ep I saw that I still quote in different versions. It's when somebody asks Mimi about her garish make-up, implying it's a sign of some cry for help or something and she says, "If by garish you mean pretty? Then yes, that's my make-up..."

Nayrt, and also not the OP, but as someone who grew up being taught that being polite to others was more important than standing up for myself, sometimes finding something to admire in asshole characters makes sense. It isn't really very likely that someone who used to be nice would look at Mimi and suddenly turn into an asshole overnight, is it?
