Definitely one of my absolute favorite shows of all time--I have such a thing for Rivalslash, and Hikaru and Akira's thing just went so beyond whatever anyone else in the show had *sighs*
Which reminds me that I miss Kawakami Tomoko ;____;

The art is pretty and the characters are engaging and flawed but they have to pick themselves up when they hit a bump in the road. I love this series so much too, seriously. ♥

Everyone else as already said it better than I could, but this series is just about perfect. I think I want to watch through it a fourth time.

The characters. The characters are what make the story. They grow, mature, and change in realistic and amazing ways. The art is lovely and the progression of how the characters age throughout is also amazing and unprecedented in most anime. Also there is excellent voice acting, good music, strong primary and secondary story arcs. Just because it is about a game in a supposedly shounen genre doesn't mean that it isn't excellent storytelling with compelling characters.
