(Anonymous) 2011-07-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)For example I was watching Gunslinger Girl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunslinger_Girl) with my gf a while back and had a hard time believing that so much time, effort, and money were being put into those lolis. They went through all that training and augmentation and conditioning and were yet still mentally unstable and tended to only last a year or two before burning out and dying. It just didn't make sense to me and thus I hard a hard time suspending my disbelief and just enjoying the anime.
So yeah, Puella has magical girls and yeah, you can handwave it and go 'it's magic, Kyubei doesn't have to explain anything', but within the series' own setting trying to bring 'science' in with all the magic doesn't really work and is a bit jarring.
Of course your mileage may vary. *shrug*
