But no one is talking about those other fandoms, those have nothing to do with the secret or Shawn and Gus or anything. Yeah, fandom (pretty much ALL fandoms) are generally racist, but there are plenty of people who don't give a shit what race someone is when it comes to ships and people can NOT ship things for whatever reasons they want.

I'm one of the people who responded and who doesn't ship Shawn/Gus because of their dynamic, and you're essentially saying that I, an incest-molestation survivor, must secretly hate black people because there's no other reason anyone might not want to turn a very clearly platonic brotherly relationship into a sexual one.

Okay that's you but it's ridiculous to act like fandom as a whole is coming from the same place. Every secret about this issue gets reams of comments about the brother thing but meanwhile one of the larger tv fandoms is based around two actual brothers.

I DIDN'T act like everyone is coming from the same place, you did and are, and yeah it IS ridiculous. Lots of people who have issues with Shawn/Gus because of the semi-incest don't ship those brothers either. BUT NO ONE EXCEPT YOU IS TALKING ABOUT THAT FANDOM it is completely irrelevant.

Why wouldn't I bring up other fandoms? Psych fandom doesn't exist in some magical world wholly apart where racism has no impact on who gets shipped. If there's history of fandom going for their dynamic a million times over but suddenly have qualms about it in just this one case, why wouldn't I point out the hypocrisy?

Hi, fellow incest survivor.

I don't think that's the kind of racism OP's talking about- the secret hatred and individual acts of meanness kind. I think she's talking about a more systemic thing- people are sort of subtly manipulated by their media to not see people of color as attractive, and that bleeds over into fandom, and the lack of people countering that (are there many Shawn/Gus fic-a-thons? I don't know, this isn't really my fandom) seems sort of ooky in a place where people notice and discuss.

I didn't really read the secret as accusatory, so much as disappointed and uncomfortable and curious. "Hey, there's a thing. I noticed the thing. Is anyone but me kinda uncomfortable with the thing? Am I way off-base saying something about the thing?"

The "r" word doesn't have to be an accusation of bigotry. :-/

I responded to the OP elsewhere- you're right, they're talking about a trend as a whole and what they think are the reasons. This particular person, maryjane7547 is acting like it's the only reason, and there are people in this thread who are treating it as "don't like shawn/gus == racist". When no, some of us just find it freaking disgusting, and frankly it makes me really uncomfortable that people DO ship it (which, because maryjane brought it up to dismiss me before, is why I don't watch shows that have huge incest-ship followings).
