OMG I can't believe someone besides me remembers Young Americans! I came here to recomend it, I love Jake and that entire storyline to pieces.
(do you happen to know if there's any fanfic for it?)

Yes, Young Americans! The Jake/Ham storyline made that show. Scout/Bella/Will are lovely, but they wouldn't have made me want a fandom.

I'm in the midst of writing something now. I have one short piece that I wrote for advent on this journal. There's an LJ comm called whosaiditsover. And there's some nice stuff on fanfiction.net.

You can reach some stuff by using the wayback machine ("required reading" was the name of an archive) but most of the good stuff there has been transferred to FF.net, I'd recommend ness2 and Depudor, but there are others.

Wow, thanks a lot!
I had a great morning browsing fics and stuff xD.
Too bad most of the fics are, understandably, with Jake as a female. Somehow my head!canon became that he's a trans guy, just not fully aware of it yet (seriously - he went through all that trouble to live as a guy just to see if his mom would notice? I always saw it as an excuse and rationalization he kept telling himself), so hearing the fic refer to him as "she" takes me out.

No problem!

I find Jake written really weird too. It's not 100% my head canon that Jake's a transguy, but there are definitely too many fics with a desperate-to-be-girly Jake. And I find female pronouns really strange, I prefer fics to be from a POV, then we can use male pronouns. There aren't any omnipresent narrator fics that use male pronouns, so IDK how I feel about that.

But, of interest, the fic I'm writing atm doesn't use any pronouns for Jake, so I'm really excited about that.

Yeah, even beside the whole trans thing, hearing female pronouns feels really strange for some reason. I've found some fics that don't use female pronouns, like this one (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/970074/1/Needy) by ness2, and I quite liked it.

I'm looking forward to your fic xD. Do you mind me friending you so I don't miss it?

(it's the anon above (duh :p). I actually only discovered I'm might actually enjoy reading fanfic after all about two weeks ago, so I haven't set up a LJ for those purposes yet :D)
