They were my first fandom, too. My friends and I had notebooks full of self-insert BSB fanfic. (I didn't even know what fanfic was at the time, but we sure wrote a lot of it. I recently found one of those notebooks!) I'm still friends with these people, but we have never spoken of it since high school.

Eh, I don't think ontd_bsb would be as active as you wish it were. Like half of ontd loves Sailor Moon and we have about three spin offs but they all die pretty quickly.

I enjoy the BSB posts on ontd because the pressed NSYNC stans make them entertaining.

This could very well have been created by me, ngl. I was so into BSB (and had a big crush on Brian) and it was my intro to fanfiction. Now, of course, I feel weird about RPF, but back then I adored it. Especially the really bad ones XD

OMG It's like we were all the same fans or something. BSB was my first fandom. My friends and I would gush over how hot so and so was, we'd pair each other up with the Boys.
True story, there was three of us at first who LOVED the BSB. I was AJ stan, and my other two friends were the Kevin and Brian stans. A few weeks later we found a girl who was a Nick stan so she became part of our group. In the next school year we met up with another girl who was a BSB fan...it wasn't until years later did she tell me that she was a big fan of Kevin or Nick (I forgot), but stepped down and took Howie because he was the only unclaimed BSB. She did become a pretty big Howie fangirl, though.
I think I was the first one to write a super self-inserty fanfic of us all hooking up with the guys. Gosh, I'm so embarrassed.
I remember being exposed to not just fanfics but humor and smut fanfics from BSB fandom. OMG I don't know if I could ever be in a fandom now. I haven't really paid attention to them lately and I don't know how active I would be if I found out there was one.

I'm not going to their concert here (I probably wouldn't even if I could afford the tickets), but seeing them promoting their tour on various shows makes me nostalgic, too. They were my first introduction to fandom, too, although I wasn't really involved online (the first fanfic I read and the only fanfic I've written* was in the BSB fandom, though).

BSB was my first fandom too before I even knew what fandom was heh. I had so much crap. A pile of pics from magazines, the sticker books almost filled, a dozen full sized posters... I probably have them in a box somewhere still in storage. My friend and I had lots of jokes and RPF before I really knew what it was. XD It was good times. We've reminisced before, but mostly to poke fun at how silly we were. II don't think I could be the same way again about them though. It wouldn't be the same and I'd feel like a creeper lol.

I still have every poster, magazine, and VHS tape (of every performance) hidden in the back of my closet. I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Whenever someone digs through my closet, I hope they don't see it. haha

I never got into NSYNC (loved JC though) but I do have Devon Sawa and 5ive posters in there as well.
The floor of my closet is like the best parts of my teen years packed away in shame filled boxes. (Even if I still openly fangirl over them, lol)

Devon Sawa was my first celebrity crush. I saw Little Giants and was in pre-teen love. XD All my friends liked JTT, but I wanted to see Wild America for Devon. I felt like such an outcast lol. I think I liked Nick the best only BECAUSE he looked like Devon. >_> <_< And I completely forgot about the VHS tapes... My god... Since there was no YT I would record music videos from MuchMusic like crazy. I recorded every interview I saw BSB on and all their videos. Sometimes multiple times... So, I ended up with tons of VHS tapes with BSB and other boy band crap. XD My room was covered wall-to-wall with posters and stayed that way until I was 17. You're not the only one who was crazily obsessed. :P It's kinda why I can forgive some of the crazier fandoms now *cough*Twilight*cough*. I grew out of it eventually (sorta, I still have that stuff in boxes lol), but it's nice to think back on sometimes. Good times. :) What has always cracked me up and almost made me convinced BSB had subliminal messages in their music is that before my boyband craze my favourite bands were No Doubt, Bush X, Offspring, Green Day... then my friend brought over her BSB CD and that was it. o_O

Dude, friend hello_ilu and/or me (though she's never on LJ, uh, but I am!). After going to the NKOTBSB tour, we're huge fans (especially me). I was never in fandom, but I still love them now. I'd love to have someone else to talk to about them!

(Alternatively, if you have a tumblr, go follow backstreetboys or boybandblog. idk how much they interact with their followers, but they get pretty excited about BSB.)

I saw NKOTBSB in Boston at Fenway Park. I squeed madly. All my sports friends kinda blinked and stared at me (and I got a lot of "um, glad you had a good time...?"). So yeah, I totally get where you're coming from. I wouldn't mind lurking in a fandom for them (and the New Kids too), I remember being very active in our corner of the fandom in college....

ETA: And I second the finding old notebooks with self-insert (group of friends insert) fanfic before I ever really wrote fanfic.

I'll squee with you, OP! I love BSB and they were my first fandom as well – both het and slash. To be honest, I still have a huge soft spot for Nick/Brian fanfic. I wish people still wrote it. :( I'd give anything for a nice well written, long, plotty fanfic about them. But nearly all the BSB slash fanfic has disappeared.

On another note, I'd also like to find someone to squee with about NKOTB slash. The very few fanfics and very small fandom I've found, that is. I want Joey/Donnie fanfic SO BAD! Seriously, where is the fandom?

I'll gladly gush over them with you! I was actually a serious *NSYNC girl back in the day, and I hated BSB (as much as a 13-year-old can "hate" a boyband - it was irrational but I was convinced that *NSYNC > BSB).

I'm older now and finally came to accept the fact that *NSYNC will probably never get back together. Something made me look at some BSB stuff and BOOM, I'm hooked. Wish I had been a fan for longer, but later is better than never I guess. Aaand then of course now I'm completely in love with New Kids, too. Donnie Wahlberg, I love you.

...Anyway. I'll be seeing NKOTBSB on July 19. I've been doing most of my squeeing with others on tumblr; that seems to be where the biggest fandom is nowadays. I want to post more on LJ (and I have posted quite a bit really), but yeah, I don't think many of my friends really care.
