It's crazy, really. The amount of slash in fandom... If fandom mimicked real life, heterosexuality would be the minority by far. And it isn't. This is simply fact. I'm not weighing in subjectively.

People are always pulling out these vaguely-cited statistics that turn out to be representative only of a very thin stratum of lj/dw fandom.

If fandom mimicked real life there would be a heard of teenage girls wandering around with "violet eyes" and "raven hair" who are the sooper-specialist thing evar!

Oh no. It's actually rare for a fandom to be slash-dominant. LJ just makes it seem that way. Outside of LJ, you would be surprised how many fandom you think is slash dominant are het-dominant.
