I could say the same of you. How can you not understand my view? I don't care what the characters really are, you write them as gay. You write relationships and sex for other females and don't care that you often get it wrong. You do it for amusement and getting off. Meahwhile, we are fighting for our right to get married and getting our heads bashed in from time to time.

You write about gays while caring so little about actual gays that you don't even care if the stories reflect real life in ANY way.

Because it's fiction and meant to be entertainment. It's not wrong for me and it not wrong for the other slash fans, even it is wrong for you, because, and I'm repeating myself, it's not for you.

You seem like a serious person, and I'm sorry my initial response was flippant. But we are not co-opting the gay for wank material. It's fantasy. It's not meant to be real, any more than a Penthouse Forum letter is meant to be a serious representation of a your average heterosexual encounter.

I can understand you find attraction to it (just like straight guys with girl on girl) but I do wish you'd see that sometimes it can be taken to extremes. I have seen girls who really think gay relationships are just like in fic.

Many (I'd even say most) of us don't agree with the fact that you're even writing this stuff, but, of course, there's always something to learn to live with. Just don't be so shocked when people call you out on it.

Well us fat, unhappy housewives are such a sensitive lot. It's hard to see that perspective through all our bitter tears. (Since according to you all slash fans are the same.)

Mm, because no gay man has ever co-opted any part of a woman's existence for his own entertainment. Tell that to the guys who dress up in drag, acting out some massively distorted projection of femininity without ever having to consider what it's like for the women who can't take off the disguise at the end of the night. Who have to live in their own skin and be worried about their rights to control their own bodies, who have to worry about whether or not they can risk walking across a dark parking lot or the thousand other equally horrific, equally invisble realities women have to deal with.

Please understand, I am not belitting the battles the gay community has to face. They are real, they need to be fought by all of us, but they are also not the point in this situation. That not every slasher is a straight woman (ironic, but related, one of the worst slash writers I know--plot, characterization, the sex--is a gay man. He's not writing it for realism, he's writing it because it's fun and it makes him happy and it might be godawful but it makes him happy and that's the only thing that matters) isn't the point either.

We each of us have our biases and our causes. Things that matter to us and enrage us.

The kicker is while we're complaining about others disrespect of them, we never stop to think for a second how we might be disrespecting theirs.

I doubt my comment will make you reconsider anything, and that's fine, but I hope it might.

Hate to point it out, but a vast majority of drag queens are actually straight males. You'll have the occasional gay male drag queen (who may be insulted by the gay community for not trying to fit in), but most of them are straight.

Most? No. I've spent a significant amount of time around drag queens and I've never met a straight one. Where are you getting this statistic?

not my battle but I can't resist

L O fucking L. Are you trolling? I didn't know anyone could get so melodramatic over smutfic.

Hang on while I look for my violin

I don't understand how "enjoying unrealistically portrayed gay romance" is equal to "unconcerned with the rights of gay people in real life." Like, I seriously cannot see how you made that connection. I enjoy bad (heterosexual) Victorian romance novels where women orgasm easily and often, does this make me anti-feminist?
