Fandoms with a heavy emphasis on OC shipping are places I steer clear of on principle. Nothing good can come of that.

Oh come, no need to be sarcastic. I'm not saying you're not right, I just think that since I wouldn't want to be in those fandoms to begin with, I'm not surprised they're not fun places to be.

Though, just to clarify, by OC you do mean "original character", right?

Yes, I did mean Original Character, but it's kind of hard to avoid in the few places where fanfiction and fanart are posted for this fandom. There are a lot of fans of the series who adore the male lead and can't stand that he was actually paired up with a female character, much less the one it was very obvious he was going to wind up with to anyone with any knowledge of how storytelling works. The absolute shock at the end of the series that the creator went "that way" was amazing, considering it was right there in front of their eyes for the entire series - both regarding the ones who wanted him to remain single and those who wanted him with one of two other male leads.

Well see, OC-shipping doesn't have the best reputation around these parts, so if I hear that a fandom have a lot of fans who ship their OCs with the characters, I can't help but feel there's just something about the series that attracts these folks. Mind, it may not be the fault of the series itself, awesome stuff attracts bad fans all the time. Stands to reason that the wankier bash-happy slash fans (and hell, maybe even het fans) would flock there as well, and instead of having cool rational people, you have those.

I can't think of anywhere that OC-shipping has a good reputation, personally.

There are some seriously batshit insane/cruel writers both of the favorite slash ships and the OC ships in the fandom, and when you call them on it, you're "interfering with their right to tell a story their way", even when you point out politely their characterization is completely out-of-character. (I have not done so, but seen the fallout when one BNF did that to another. It wasn't pretty.) It's rather disappointing that a female character who is pretty damn cool is so completely reviled by so many people because she interferes with their ship.

So... dare I ask what fandom this is? Cool female characters are something of a rarity to be honest, it's disheartening that not only there are bashing fans but a lot of the time even the creators drop the ball with their women as well.

I think the thing about OC shippers is that each of them basically runs their own subgroup in the fandom. So instead of having a few factions, you have a bunch and they all hate the canon character that "gets in the way".

Fullmetal Alchemist, which is jam-packed with cool female characters, but one specifically gets bashed.

Weird... I read FMA and dabbled in the fandom, but I never noticed the overwhelming amount of OC shippers. And really, I think a lot of people like Winry. This fandom isn't so bad.

I go lots of places looking up art and fic, so I do see a lot of OC shippers.

And while there are quite a few Winry fans, there are just as many rabid Winry bashers.
