what's the different between gay fiction and slash? aren't they kind of the same thing?

Different anon here, but I think gay fiction is original fiction about two gay guys who are meant to be gay, while slash is fanfiction written about two non-gay guys that somebody else has created and you're just playing with.

not quite.

simply put?

gay fiction which more often than not address the real life issues gays face in their day to day lives. it's written for gay males.

slash is less concerned with the real life issues many gays face (and I am not saying that it's a bad thing) and more with entertainment. and...drumroll please...it's written for straight females.

the target audience is different so the textures, the feelings, the underlying themes are, in a great many cases, different.

not wrong.

different. the focus is different.

and what I'm saying is that THAT'S OKAY! as a gay male I LOVE to read slash written by women. in many wonderful cases it's tender and gentle and emotive than gay male fiction written by gay men.
