I don't have a problem with the scene. What I have a problem with is that they adapted this into a children's movie in the first place. Don't wanna bitch about book vs. movie too much, but he actually seems even remotely sympathetic in the book, whereas the version they made for children doesn't have any development of his obsession, thus making him seem a lot more evil. In book it's more like "Frollo is basically a good guy with some flaws who has a hard time dealing with his paedophilic urges and his insane son and eventually loses his shit and ruins Esmeralda and everyone else's lives in the process," instead of "generic evil guy is a racist perv who has no right to live and gets what he deserves."

Point is, if they didn't see fit to have this kind of character in a kid's movie, why did they adapt it to begin with? Not that I wish they hadn't, as this is one of my favorite Disney movies ever and I actually think they improved on the original version in certain ways. But the whole thought process behind the change baffles me.
