What about the people who are walking around full of nice squishy bloody organs themselves, but don't really care to see them ripped out by a knife on TV? And they go "ewww, gore!" even though they're full of the exact same stuff?

I mean, not that I'm a het basher, but reading a fictional depiction of something, vs. the thing itself.... well, it's like Guitar Hero vs. actually being in a band. People like them for different reasons.

Usually I'm kind of "meh, het" in most mainstream stuff just because it's handled with the same sort of grace and care as when people go "Oh, you're gay? I know this guy who's also gay, you'd be a perfect match!" "Uuuh, there's more to a relationship than being prepared to like the other's genitals. Personality? Interests? Religions? Views on children and the future?" "Nonsense! GENITALS! Only criteria needed for a perfect relationship"

Like, oh, all the Huddy fans who were throwing parades when it became canon, then rioting a month later when it was handled like poo and their ship was not just sunk, but flushed.

Or, oh, action movies where we're introduced to the Slot B counterpart to the main guy's Tab A and hey, we know they're going to fall breathlessly in love because she's got compatible genitals. No need for them to talk about that mundane stuff like, oh, if they like the same type of food, or she's a packrat and he's a minimalist. That's the stuff that makes me go "meh, het." which is code for "Meh, I hate very lazy writers"

Oh, in the case you're talking about I'm "meh, het" as well. But people who write slash do this I'd say just as often as people who write het (in fanfiction -- obviously terrible romantic comedy movies take the prize on this). So really it's more about "meh, I hate very lazy writers" in the instance of slash or het for me.

Also, I don't think the bloody organ thing is a very good argument because how often are we going to come in actual contact with bloody organs? Meanwhile if you're having heterosexual sex with your husband every night (okay, probably not) and go "eww het" I definitely reserve the right to raise my eyebrow at you. And I mean, literally, people who say "eww het" and don't just happen to prefer reading slash for whatever reason (which I totally get and am not questioning).
