Yeah, I checked out a couple of posts there for kicks but after a while I got the same feeling you did - you summed it up better and I don't see the series like that at all. =(

I don't know anything about that comm, I'm just curious. What do they do that's so bad? Except posting gifs?

I would assume it's because they only post silly gifs, sexy gifs and talk about the boys (they're so hott etc) and there's nothing really of substance to comment on.

I think it works with silly things like ANTM etc but with ASoIaF, or any other book fandom, it seems to be a bit more protective of their 'find' since prior the TV show being made, it was only popular to those who read the books. I'm sure the same could be said of True Blood.

That's not really how it works at all. There are fun posts and there are the dorky gif posts, but there's also deep discussion posts.

I haven't seen any of those. Granted I've only checked a few times, right after an episode aired and it was full of a lot of gif posts. But this was on ONTD. Is there another site which focuses solely on ASoIaF?

The ONTD site party posts are awesome, but they're mostly goofing around, but I have actually had some of the deepest, most fun discussions about the greatest things. Especially as the episodes were airing.

You're only allowed to be serious business all the time when you read ASoIF. Macros are a no-no, even if they're fun and ironic especially in regards to the characters and take a good understanding of the story.

HATERS GONNA HATE. Whatever, this is the most fun I've had in fandom in forever and I've seen some really thoughtful, interesting discussions along with the fun. You are allowed to enjoy something however you want and ONTD is perfect for me not getting swept into the depressive fits the book series leaves me with or feel upset that everyone hates all the characters I love. Or if they do dislike they, they're at least respectful about the way they present it instead of full of hateful diatribe.

Seriously though, fandom doesn't have to be all srs business all the time. ontd_asoiaf is about having fun, but we do also have some serious discussions. We just know that fandom isn't serious all the time and we have fun with it.
