Personally I think movie!Prime's a dick, but whatever makes you happy.

At least he's not the flat, cardboard cut-out of a Merciful Hero he is in the series. Quite frankly, I prefer his movies counterpart--who is much more rounded (and, as Sam said, "human for once")--to the animated version. They tend to make him seem too... Not exactly perfect, but too good.

But...he's Robot Jesus. He's Captain America from space. He's supposed to be a Merciful Hero. You change that and you haven't got an Optimus Prime anymore.

Bay just made him into the Punisher. More grit is not always good.

But he's a cardboard cut-out and not a character, then.

He has mercy. He just knows when to apply it now as opposed to stupidly letting someone who, you know, pretty much destroyed his home, and would destroy another planet altogether, go free.

I'm sorry you don't like that he was made more rounded and more human and realistic--not necessarily grittier. He seemed more war-hardened, which is something he SHOULD be after so long fighting. No one goes through that unaffected, which always bothered me about the animated series.

His opening scene in Revenge of the Fallen is shooting a helpless, nearly dismembered (and potentially useful!) enemy in the head.

He wasn't more realistic, he was a caricature of the sort of hero that Bay thinks is cool--because you can't possibly be cool if you dislike killing.
